UNITED NATIONS IPCC - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change. Having declared a Code Red, we wonder how that equated to the Defense Readiness Condition, better known as the "Defcon" warning system, in terms of war footing.

In August 2021, the IPCC published a Report that put the accelerated warming of the planet as a Code Red for humanity. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the Working Group's report was nothing less than "a code red for humanity. The alarm bells are deafening, and the evidence is irrefutable".

He noted that the internationally-agreed threshold of 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels of global heating was "perilously close. We are at imminent risk of hitting 1.5 degrees in the near term. The only way to prevent exceeding this threshold, is by urgently stepping up our efforts, and pursuing the most ambitious path.

"We must act decisively now, to keep 1.5 alive."

The UN chief in a detailed reaction to the report, said that solutions were clear. "Inclusive and green economies, prosperity, cleaner air and better health are possible for all, if we respond to this crisis with solidarity and courage", he said.

He added that ahead of the crucial COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in November, all nations - especially the advanced G20 economies - needed to join the net zero emissions coalition, and reinforce their promises on slowing down and reversing global heating, "with credible, concrete, and enhanced Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)" that lay out detailed steps to achieve this very necessary climb down from economic growth, to economic stability.

How Governments and Councils might deal with a regressive situation to balance the books after years of transparency free corruption, is the new housekeeping challenge for 2022. The Cleaner Ocean Foundation offers a free advice service to Councillors in the UK, the basis of which is the 6 Point Plan. The UK, Europe and all other Member countries around the world must move to zero emission transport as quickly as practical, transitioning from fossil fuels - since this is already in motion, save for infrastructure deficiencies. If we don't, humanity will experience severe difficulties, with no way back. Making the infrastructure happen should be a number one priority.

CODES RED - BLUE - The scales of war are equally applicable to the heating of the planet in terms of changing our climate. Although there has been a lot of speak about changing our ways, local authorities have carried on business as usual. That multiplied by all the Member Nations thinking the same, has taken us to the brink.

DEFCON

It might help us to look upon the war against global warming in military terms. As a war to be won strategically as a series of battles.

To win the war, we need to define the strategic objectives as a series of battles. Some of the key battles UN Members have lost are:

Agenda 21, Rio de Janeiro 1992, UN conference on the environment and sustainable development

COP 3 Kyoto Protocol 1997

COP 21, Paris Agreement 2015 - defeated by China, India, Russia and USA

COP26 could be seen as another decisive battle, the same as Agenda 21, Kyoto and Paris. Planet Earth and it's inhabitants lost the above (defining) battles successively, because the powerful G7 members are kleptocrats, ill prepared to makes the necessary sacrifices. We doubt that they ever will be. Not until the politicians driving global warming are replaced, and the corporations not acting responsibly, are fined with confiscation orders, by way of punitive enforcement, that hands assets and power back to the people.

There should be laws against local authorities (LA or Councils) failing to ensure zero emission development in their geographical regions. LA's that carry on as before should be closed down, their councilors and officers replaced by special emergency task forces operated by Central Government. The aim being to disinfect and nullify the climate wrongdoing they have occasioned.

There should be laws against influential companies supporting political parties. Politicians, should not be allowed to have interests in any corporation, or any property other than their own homes, that may conflict with the oaths of office. Too many Members of Parliament, Senators and others previously holding such positions of trust, have retired as millionaires, having profited from property development and fossil fuel investments. Fraud statute and anti-corruption legislation must be tightened up to make such offences against humanity, prosecutable offences. With serious penalties, imprisonment and confiscation orders.

Kings and Queens, must bow down to the interests of their subjects. In this case, saving the planet from anthropogenic climate chaos and pollution.

The point here is that our (past and) present rulers have shown themselves as unfit to govern - with COP 26 about to brand them so, if they once again procrastinate. They have political failures to now. They are leading us to the brink of extinction and World War Three. There is thus a link between climate stability and World Peace.

CANNIBALISTIC RITUAL - Cornelius and Johan de Witt, Dutch politicians killed and part eaten by a frenzied mob. Reforms followed in very short order. Sometimes it takes the fear of death to galvanize political will. We are facing nothing less with the present rate of climate change

Unrest is sure to follow as food insecurity escalates from accelerated desertification. The starving masses are likely to rebel - and maybe as on 20th August 1672, when an angry Dutch mob, killed their Prime Minister, Johan de Witt and his brother Cornelius. The brothers were shot and then left to the mob. Their naked, mutilated bodies were strung up on a nearby public gibbet, while an Orangist (William) mob partook of their roasted livers in a cannibalistic frenzy - such was the level of discontent.

The modern version of this would be financial disenfranchisement and imprisonment, followed by confiscation orders, where as climate criminals, their salaries, pensions and real estate, would constitute Proceeds of Crime.

HOW MUCH IS THE EARTH HEATING UP - As of early 2017, the Earth had warmed by roughly 2 degrees Fahrenheit (more than 1 degree Celsius) since 1880, when records began at a global scale. The number may sound low, but as an average over the surface of an entire planet, it is actually high, which explains why much of the world’s land ice is starting to melt and the oceans are rising at an accelerating pace. If greenhouse gas emissions continue unchecked, scientists say, the global warming could ultimately exceed 8 degrees Fahrenheit, which would undermine the planet’s capacity to support a large human population.
