A to Z - INDEX
BLOOMBERG EXTRACT 2018 - Electric buses were seen as a joke at an industry conference in Belgium nine years ago when the Chinese manufacturer BYD showed an early model. Suddenly, buses with battery-powered motors are a serious matter with the potential to revolutionize city transport - and add to the forces reshaping the energy industry. China had about 99 percent of the 385,000 electric buses on the roads worldwide in 2017, accounting for 17 percent of the country's entire fleet.
Battery powered buses are big in China, now making an appearance in India and London, England. There are also plans to implement large number of E-Buses in Canada and the USA. With all those buses using lithium batteries, that gives us an opportunity to do something really great. We might combine battery swap stations with load levelling, making better use of solar and wind generated electricity that might otherwise go to waste, via smart distribution.
One potential issue with the widespread adoption of battery swapping electric buses is that the different makes seem to have different energy packs. It would make a lot of sense to agree a standard unit such that trucks and cars might all use the same service stations as buses.
The history of electric cars with battery exchange shows us that only a small percent of people bought cars with exchangeable cartridges, where there were only a small number of service stations and the vehicle choice was limited. Better Place is a good example of a brave attempt, where the concept for mass use was poorly founded.
TRUCKS, LUTONS, PANEL VANS - One size fits all. Most existing vehicles might be converted. All you need is the service station. These stations also service buses, coaches and cars, while they provide load leveling mobility security. Trucks come in all shapes and sizes, form rigid flatbeds to articulated lorries, mostly defined by their cubic carrying capacity and weight. The service station above caters for all standard sized vehicles and is Copyright February 2020 © all rights reserved, Cleaner Ocean Foundation Ltd.
